The Chief of Staff reports directly to the CEO and plays a critical role in helping the CEO drive Alcon’s strategic priorities. This role is a trusted advisor to the CEO and top executives in driving results, facilitating effective and focused discussions, and ensuring efficient operations at the executive leadership level.


  • Lead material creation for CEO’s monthly and quarterly reporting commitments (i.e., Alcon Executive Leadership team and meetings, Board of Directors, key events) in strong coordination with functions providing content
  • Support functions in preparation for key presentations (e.g., Board of Directors), ensuring high quality, message consistency across presentations, and timeliness
  • Collaborate with functions to drive strategic priorities, through direct and indirect influencing
  • Support functions on structuring problems, planning, and setting recommendations
  • Lead setting of yearly strategic priorities at the enterprise level, to then be cascaded into the organization
  • Act as thought partner to the CEO and to leaders across Alcon
  • Lead special projects at request of the CEO of Alcon
  • Drive operational efficiency and focus at the corporate level, by managing agenda for key meetings, guiding presenters in standards and deadlines, ensuring action items are done


  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English

  • An advanced degree (MBA, JD, MD, or PhD)
  • Prior experience at a top-tier management consulting firm, operating as project leader or beyond, having ideally been exposed to the Pharma or Ophthalmology industries
  • Excellent ability to quickly learn/synthesize complex topics and focus on value drivers
  • Very strong intellectual capacity, with proven ability to work on many different topics in parallel, and to prioritize effectively (distinguishing urgency and importance)
  • Excellent conceptual and analytical skills with a track record of structuring and preparing communication materials for senior executives (including excellent PowerPoint skills)
  • High emotional intelligence as reflected by excellent social and interpersonal skills, a deep sense of self-awareness and self-control
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across a global, matrix company
  • Excellent project and process management skills (e.g., at times might coordinate as many as 10-15 different documents in parallel for Alcon or ELT audiences, incorporating input from many sources)
  • Very high attention to detail (without losing sight of the big picture) to ensure highest quality levels at all times
  • Organizational skills, results orientation, collaboration and influencing abilities, business acumen, and the utmost level of integrity (including management of highly confidential information)
