Key Responsibilities The Chief of Staff will manage the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO): set agendas for key internal meetings; help prioritize among competing corporate and departmental needs; develop business plans and strategies to help the Clinical and Medical organizations meet short and long-term corporate objectives; help determine key performance indicators and how to measure team performance; continuously improve cross-functional teamwork across the organization looking for ways to improve efficiencies and processes; ensure productive external engagement and coordination.

Serves as a key partner to the CMO and the senior R&D Leadership team by leading the development of selected key tactical and operational plans to meet corporate and department goals. This will require building strong relationships across the R&D organization with special emphasis on the Clinical and Medical organizations, understanding key operational challenges faced by teams, and developing appropriate and timely solutions to address such challenges. The role will ensure that team roles and responsibilities are clear at all times, and team projects and initiatives are on an effective trajectory to achieve those goals. Another key component of the role is to ensure team capabilities continue to evolve over time as Immunocore continues to mature as an organization.

The position offers the opportunity to interact with all levels of management taking an active role in the successful development of Immunocore’s pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partners with the CMO in translating strategy into short, medium and long-term plans
  • Works with the CMO in preparing reports, presentations and/or papers to present to the Executive Management, Board and CEO as required.
  • Assigns work activities and coordinates schedules, projects, and programs; provides constructive feedback; reviews and evaluates work and makes effective suggestions and recommendations
  • Reviews and monitors agreed changes and acts as the interface on such changes between the company stakeholders
  • Supports and champions R&D Transformation initiatives
  • Acts as the interface with other functions and responds/delegates work to the respective owners
  • Teams with department leadership to develop and prioritize department plans to achieve R&D’s vision and strategy, addresses issues and obstacles that impede progress toward achieving goals
  • Drafts the agenda for Management Team Meetings and in-person meetings, following up on the same with minutes/action Items
  • The CMO may delegate other duties as required.

Experience & Knowledge

  • At least 3+ experience in pharmaceutical R&D with familiarity with Research and Development processes and needs
  • Experienced in applying advanced principles and practices of program development and project administration
  • Ability to build complex cross-group/department plans, drive, track and report execution progress
  • Managing large and complex operations, programs, and projects
  • Working collaboratively with other departments and key stakeholders internally and externally
  • Strong relationship building skills, able to influence internal and external stakeholders, and high EQ
  • Experience interpreting and administering policies and procedures sufficient to administer, discuss, resolve, and explain them to staff and other constituencies
  • Experienced working effectively to meet deadlines, and can adjust to changing priorities
  • Strong communication skills, professional presence, and ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Collaborative and able to motivate and energize cross functional team members to achieve aggressive goals
  • Strong problem-solving, and analytical skills, able to facilitate discussions among groups with diverse technical expertise, and progress decisions on complex issues
  • Substantive experience in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of science; relevant Master's or PhD preferred
  • Project management certification desirable
