Hanley Energy Electrical is part of the Hanley Energy Group, this role is based at our new US HQ, 44381 Russell Branch Parkway, Ashburn, Virginia 20147. The role will be responsible for Hanley Energy Electrical in any locations where it operates including those in Ohio, Oregon and San Francisco.

We are looking for a General Manager to oversee all staff, budgets, and operations of the Hanley Energy Electrical US business. The General Manager responsibilities include formulating overall strategy, managing people and establishing policies. The General Manager reports directly to the Country Manager of Hanley Energy.

KEY RESULT AREAS / PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct aspects of the business operations, including Electrical Engineering, Safety, and Project /Program management.
  • Control of operational quality, development, health & safety, and compliance within assigned scope of the role.
  • Ability to prepare an annual business plan and establish policy guidelines to drive the performance of the electrical engineering side of the Hanley Energy Group business.
  • Optimally make sure that electrical engineering improves on the standard efficiencies in terms of material yields, labor, and overhead costs versus budget.
  • Implement a Performance Tracking System which includes the key performance indicators covering engineering, quality assurance, manpower levels and finance.
  • Develop and nurture a dynamic and competent workforce through a robust performance driven culture.
  • Works to ensure that the business financial goals are met, including monthly profitability and EBITDA targets.
  • Works with global role holders in areas such as manufacturing, procurement, Service and HR, to ensure that the business activities and tactical actions are executed so that the business working capital is properly managed.
  • Provides information to various corporate personnel in a timely manner, including daily/weekly/monthly reporting requirements and other ad hoc information requests.
  • Frequently researches cost savings opportunities, leading and monitoring all progress in capturing savings opportunities.
  • Oversees all employee management, while being a champion for safety at all customer sites.
  • Enforces all company policies, including safety, production, quality, sales, human resources, customer service and accounting policies.
  • Understands the technical aspects of the business manufacturing processes to provide support to both engineering, other colleagues and customers.
  • Drives standardization practices throughout the organization that align with the wider group.
  • Coach and develop employees to build high performing teams. Assigns stretch assignments to further train and enhance employee development.
  • Promotes cross training where possible, to optimize workforce, ensure functional coverage, reduce labor costs, and support succession planning.
  • Manage and maintain labor costs in accordance with budgets and strategic goals.
  • Oversees the hiring and engagement of union-based employees. Works with Human Resources to seek out ways to motivate and develop employees.

Requirements:

  • 10-15 years of experience working in the same industry and with a minimum of 5 years in a GM role
  • BSc (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering / or BA in Business Management or related field
  • MSc/MA is a plus
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering contracting and engagement of union employees
  • Experience in managing projects.
  • Experience in planning and budgeting with proven financial acumen.
  • Proficient in related systems and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communicator – ability to speak to people of all levels
  • Proven analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Proven experience in managing multi-disciplined team.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple workloads and shifting priorities in a fast passed dynamic environment.
  • Ability to interpret and utilise complex and varied financial and commercial information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, partner companies, and employees at all levels.
  • Ability to achieve set standards and operate to performance criteria, for example health and safety, hygiene.
